Dongseo University, Professor Lee Mina's "Math Seen Through the Eyes for Beginners" Selected as Blue Ribbon Lecture

Two Courses Selected as Top Performers in Annual Evaluation

Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) announced on the 16th that it was selected for the Blue Ribbon Course and the Best Course in the ‘2023 K-MOOC Annual Evaluation’ conducted by the National Institute for Lifelong Education.

Dongseo University, Professor Lee Mina's "Math Seen Through the Eyes for Beginners" Selected as Blue Ribbon Lecture Professor Lee Mina selected for Blue Ribbon lecture series.

The Blue Ribbon Course is an excellent course selected by the K-MOOC Steering Committee through both qualitative and quantitative evaluations of courses operated in the given year.

This year, the Blue Ribbon Courses were selected from a total of 1,269 courses developed and operated in 2023, with 35 courses chosen (15 agreement courses, 15 post-agreement/autonomous participation courses, and 5 innovation cases) based on the results of the K-MOOC annual evaluation.

In this K-MOOC Blue Ribbon Course (agreement course) selection, Professor Lee Mina’s “Mathematics Through the Eyes for Beginners” achieved the honor of being chosen.

Mathematics can be an intriguing challenge for some, but for others, it may feel like a difficult obstacle. Many students study mathematics to achieve their goal of entering university, but often fail to discover the true beauty and value inherent in mathematics.

Professor Lee Mina’s “Mathematics Through the Eyes” aims to shift this perspective. Rather than simply teaching techniques to quickly solve problems, the course explores how mathematics originated and developed within its historical context from a humanities perspective. The core goal is to understand the essence and process of mathematics.

Professor Lee Mina stated, “For learners taking this course, my goals are first, to help them understand the value of mathematics as a part of general education, and second, to develop the ability to solve basic mathematical problems independently. I hope this will be a time to view mathematics from a new perspective and explore its meaning together.”

Additionally, in the 2023 annual evaluation, Professor Lee Mina’s “Mathematics Through the Eyes for Beginners” and Professor Gong Heesook’s “Stories of Management in Everyday Life” were selected as the Best Courses (S Grade).

The Dongseo University Center for Distance Education is currently operating five courses and will continue to expand efforts so that the public can easily access the university’s excellent courses through K-MOOC.
