Discussion on COVID-19 Infection Prevention Guidelines
Self-Education at Each School Immediately After School Opens
The Ministry of Education discussed the 'COVID-19 Infection Prevention Guidelines' to be applied in schools in preparation for the second semester opening. The guidelines include recommendations such as advising students with severe symptoms not to attend school.
On the 16th, the Ministry of Education announced that it held separate consultation meetings with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and metropolitan and provincial offices of education. The COVID-19 infection prevention guidelines are a partial modification of the guidelines prepared by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on August 15, tailored to the circumstances of schools.
First, students infected with COVID-19 are advised not to attend school if they have high fever, respiratory symptoms, or other severe symptoms, and to recover their health at home. They may return to school from the day after symptoms disappear, and the period of absence will be counted as excused absence.
Additionally, basic preventive measures such as handwashing, ventilation, and cough etiquette in daily life are emphasized, and wearing masks is recommended when visiting medical institutions, etc.
In case of COVID-19 infection, it is recommended to wear a mask for the protection of others and to refrain from unnecessary meetings or outings.
Furthermore, high-risk groups such as those aged 60 or older or immunocompromised individuals working within schools are advised to wear masks in crowded and enclosed indoor spaces, and to promptly visit a hospital for medical care if fever or respiratory symptoms appear.
Through consultations with metropolitan and provincial offices of education, the Ministry of Education will distribute the 'COVID-19 Infection Prevention Guidelines' so that each school can conduct internal education for students and staff immediately after the semester begins. It also requested that parents be informed through home correspondence letters to encourage their interest in managing infectious disease prevention for their children.
The current status of key quarantine supplies such as masks and hand sanitizers will be assessed, and active support will be provided to schools facing shortages.
The Ministry of Education plans to continuously update the prevention guidelines through active communication with related ministries and metropolitan and provincial offices of education to ensure there are no difficulties in infectious disease response at schools, and will actively support any needs arising in the school field.
