The Korea Coast Guard will hold the 20th Asia Maritime Security Agencies Chiefs Meeting (HACGAM) from the 2nd to the 6th of next month at Paradise City in Yeongjongdo, Incheon.
HACGAM is the only maritime cooperation multilateral forum in Asia, established in 2004 to prevent maritime crimes and promote cooperation in search and rescue. It has 22 member countries, including Korea, China, and Japan.
This meeting, held for the first time in Korea, is expected to be attended by more than 120 participants from 26 organizations under the slogan "Nurturing Our Seas and Securing the Future."
Prior to this chiefs meeting, in June, experts from five working groups on maritime crime prevention, search and rescue, environmental protection, information sharing, and capacity building held in-depth discussions on cooperation measures in maritime security in Songdo, Incheon.
Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, stated, "We are very proud to host the 20th Asia Maritime Security Agencies Meeting for the first time in our country this year."
