Lunit Medical AI to Pilot Use in Public Medical Institutions through Public Procurement Service Project

Medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Lunit announced on the 16th that it has been selected as a recipient of the Public Procurement Service's '2024 2nd Innovative Product Pilot Purchase Project' and will pilot its AI image analysis solution, Lunit Insight, at five public medical institutions nationwide.

Lunit Medical AI to Pilot Use in Public Medical Institutions through Public Procurement Service Project

The Public Procurement Service's Innovative Product Pilot Purchase Project was first introduced in 2019 to support the initial market entry of excellent innovative technologies and to promote improvements in public services through this. The project operates by purchasing innovative products with the Public Procurement Service's budget, which are then piloted for use in public institutions. Originally started with a budget of 2.4 billion KRW, the project has been significantly expanded to 53 billion KRW this year, reflecting the government's commitment to adopting innovative technologies in the medical field.

Through this project, Lunit's products will be piloted at public medical institutions including Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul Medical Center, Changwon Gyeongsang National University Hospital, Cheonan Medical Center in Chungnam, Korea Veterans Health Service, and Central Veterans Hospital. The target products are Lunit Insight CXR, an AI image analysis solution for chest X-rays, and Lunit Insight MMG, an AI image analysis solution for mammography. Each is expected to contribute to the early detection of lung diseases and breast cancer, as well as improving diagnostic accuracy.

In particular, this pilot purchase project is expected to contribute to promoting the growth of the domestic medical AI market and providing balanced public medical services and reducing medical disparities through actual use in public medical institutions, beyond simple procurement contracts.

Seobum Seok, CEO of Lunit, said, “Being selected for this innovative product pilot purchase project is a national recognition of the excellence of Lunit's AI technology and the potential for innovation in public healthcare.” He added, “Through the procurement of the Lunit Insight product line, we will demonstrate the practical value of AI in medical settings and continue to strive to contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services for the public.”
