Gongju City in Chungnam Province announced on the 16th that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2024 First Half Job-Linked Supportive Housing Project'.

This project is being promoted to provide quality residential environments and convenient facilities to workers, aiming to address the shortage of housing supply and alleviate housing cost burdens.

The city plans to build 102 units of public rental housing for workers in Anyoung-ri, Tancheon-myeon, in connection with the existing residential welfare center. A total project budget of 26.8 billion KRW will be invested from next year until 2027.

This site will be equipped with shared laundry facilities, a lounge, seminar rooms, and a shared office to enhance residents' convenience. The city will provide residential welfare services that combine housing and convenience spaces for tenants.

Currently, the residential welfare center in the Tancheon General Industrial Complex is leasing and selling 156 units of urban-style housing, but there is a constant waiting list for move-in, making it difficult for companies to secure accommodations for workers and causing employment challenges.

As the number of workers in small and medium-sized enterprises is expected to increase, there is a growing need to secure stable housing for workers. The city plans to support stable business activities by constructing public rental housing.

Mayor Choi Woncheol said, "With this selection, we expect to greatly contribute to resolving the youth workforce shortage in companies and improving workers' residential welfare," adding, "We will do our best to provide a stable residential environment for Gongju City's incoming population by continuously expanding the supply of public rental housing to meet housing demand."
