Jeollanam-do Holds 79th Anniversary Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony

Governor Kim Young-rok, "Continuing the Spirit of Our Forebears, Committing to a Radiant Jeonnam Era in the World"

On the 15th, Jeollanam-do held the Jeonnam Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony under the theme "The Light of Korea Reclaimed, The Light of Jeonnam to Continue" at the Kim Dae-jung Auditorium of the provincial government office to mark the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day, pledging to open an era of Jeonnam shining in the world.

At the celebration, about 700 people including Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, families of patriotic martyrs, the Jeonnam branch of the Liberation Association (Branch Chief Song In-jeong), and heads of institutions and organizations attended to reflect on the meaning of liberation and honor the noble spirit of patriotic ancestors who devoted themselves to the country.

In the awards for independence meritorious persons, the Presidential Citation was presented to Na Dae-hyun, grandson of the late Na Chi-gu; Lee Jeong-ok, daughter of the late Lee Yeon-woo; and Jeon Gil-ja, daughter of the late Jeon Woo-saeng. The Governor’s Citation was awarded to Kim Eun-sook, Oh Kwang-yong, and Han Bong-hee of the Liberation Association.

Governor Kim Young-rok emphasized, "Just as the firm will and courage of the ancestors who achieved liberation opened an era of prosperity for the Republic of Korea, we will emulate their noble spirit and fully open a happy era of Jeonnam that attracts people and draws global attention."

On the same day, a special exhibition titled "Meeting Independence Fighters through Artificial Intelligence (AI)" was held at the Yoon Seon-do Hall of the Jeonnam Provincial Office, receiving great response from visitors by vividly awakening the spirit of patriotism and firm determination of the independence fighters through their lively eyes, expressions, and voices.

Jeollanam-do has independently discovered over 1,000 independence activists who have not received honors and applied for their recognition. It also plans to sequentially publish the history of the Southern Righteous Army Museum and the history of Jeonnam’s independence movement.
