Seoul City Public Project Selected: Single-Person Household Communication Space 'Singgeulbeonggeul Sarangbang' 3rd Branch Opens This July
Various Support Programs for Single-Person Households Including Small Group Activities and Cultural Experience Programs Planned
"Living alone made my home feel too cramped and stifling, but this place feels as comfortable as my own living room where I can relax. The time spent watching dramas or chatting with others is truly precious," said residents who used the third branch of Gwanak-gu’s new single-person household communication space, 'Singgeulbungeul Sarangbang,' expressing high satisfaction.
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) opened the third branch of 'Singgeulbungeul Sarangbang' this July to create a space for communication and community building among single-person households.
The district was selected for a single-person household public project conducted by Seoul City and utilized a total of 39.9㎡ of idle space within the public facility, Sillim Comprehensive Welfare Center (110 Nangok-ro), to establish a complex space for exchange and cultural experiences among single-person households.
The third branch features customized spaces considering various activities of single-person households, including ▲a 'shared living room' for small group meetings and exchange activities ▲a 'single-person resting area' for individual relaxation ▲a study room ▲and an information desk.
At this location, cultural experience programs such as watching movies together using a home theater system and small group activities for middle-aged and older single-person households will be operated.
To celebrate the opening of the third branch, an event will be held where new visitors can participate in a simple survey and receive household items as gifts.
The first branch is located at Seongmin Welfare Center (549 Hoam-ro) and is equipped with computers and newspapers to support residents in convenient information searching. A booth for voluntary donation and sharing of goods by residents who wish to contribute is also installed, and a health taping education program that helps relieve muscle pain is held twice a month, making it popular among residents.
The second branch is located within the YWCA Bongcheon Welfare Center (254 Gwanak-ro) and operates as an unmanned caf? where visiting residents can enjoy coffee and tea for free. Small groups focusing on smartphone photography and knitting are actively run for elderly single-person households.
District Mayor Park Junhee said, "I hope Singgeulbungeul Sarangbang will establish itself as a neighborhood sarangbang where single-person households can interact and grow together beyond just being a resting space. We will continue to discover isolated single-person households and expand various programs and support to improve their quality of life."
