According to major foreign media outlets, the Japan Meteorological Agency stated that no abnormal phenomena related to a major earthquake were observed.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued the temporary information after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred off the coast of Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, southern Kyushu, on the 8th of this month, judging that the probability of a "Nankai Trough Great Earthquake" had increased.

The Nankai Trough Great Earthquake is a large-scale earthquake that occurs at intervals of 100 to 150 years along the Nankai Trough, which extends from the sea off Shizuoka Prefecture west of the Tokyo metropolitan area to the southern part of Shikoku and the eastern sea area of Kyushu.

The Japanese government estimates the probability of a magnitude 8 to 9 Nankai Trough Great Earthquake occurring within 30 years to be 70 to 80%.

It has been analyzed that if this earthquake occurs, there could be up to approximately 230,000 deaths and missing persons, and 2.09 million buildings could be damaged.

When declaring the end of the temporary information on this day, the Japanese government urged people to continue confirming evacuation routes and stockpiling food, as the possibility of a major earthquake occurring has not completely disappeared.

Disaster Prevention Minister Yoshifumi Matsumura told reporters, "Please continue to prepare even during normal times."
