Time Set Aside to Honor the Victims' Spirits
On the 14th, Pohang City visited Ms. Park, a 97-year-old and the only surviving victim in North Gyeongsang Province, to mark the National Memorial Day for the Victims of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery, which was established to raise awareness of the issue both domestically and internationally and to honor the victims.
On the 14th, Pohang City commemorated the national memorial day, the "Day of Remembrance for Victims of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery," by visiting 97-year-old survivor Park, the only living victim in Gyeongbuk Province.
Amid the ongoing heatwave, the city checked on the elderly woman's health and well-being, took time to remember her painful experiences, and honored the spirits of other victims.
On this day, Pohang City's Welfare Bureau Director, Pyeon Jun, who visited the elderly woman's home, said, "We will continue to comfort and warmly embrace the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery, a painful history that we must never forget, and strive to restore their honor and human rights," adding, "We will also pay close attention and provide support to ensure the elderly woman experiences no inconvenience in her daily life."
Pohang City visits her at least once a month to check on her health and living conditions and provides care services to help her maintain a stable life.
