Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 15th that it will visit and inspect over 700 households vulnerable to safety issues such as electricity, gas, and fire accidents due to aging residential environments, and carry out maintenance by November this year.
The support targets are safety-vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, the elderly, disabled persons, and single-parent families, with priority given to elderly people with mobility difficulties, disabled persons, and elderly living alone. In particular, the district will also re-inspect existing maintenance households whose after-service period has expired.
Following support for 670 households last year, this year the district plans to support safety facility inspections and maintenance for 700 households selected through demand surveys and reviews.
For the target households, a “Safety Welfare Consulting Team” composed of experts in fields such as electricity and gas will visit homes to conduct safety inspections on facilities with a high risk of accidents, including electrical, gas, fire, and boiler systems, and immediately repair any parts that need fixing or are outdated.
The main inspection and maintenance areas include ▲ electrical outlets, circuit breakers, wiring maintenance ▲ gas facility safety inspections, gas timer installation ▲ fire detectors, fire extinguishing equipment ▲ boiler connection bands, reinforcement of heat-resistant silicone, etc.
Additionally, safety items such as anti-slip mats, portable fire extinguishing equipment, first aid kits, and smoke masks will be provided according to the living environment, and safety education on safe usage methods to prevent fire and gas leaks will be conducted during visits.
The district plans to establish a post-management system through follow-up inspections and satisfaction surveys after the project implementation to carry out effective inspections and maintenance.
Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “Since safety accidents in daily life can lead to casualties, prevention is crucial,” adding, “We will continue to pay attention and provide support to eliminate safety blind spots so that no vulnerable groups are excluded from safety.”
