A bizarre incident occurred where a Norwegian traveler rode a plane without a boarding pass for two consecutive days.
On the 14th (local time), according to dpa news agency and others, a 39-year-old Norwegian man boarded a plane without a boarding pass at Munich Airport in Germany. Local police stated that the man was arrested on charges of disturbing public order and is under investigation.
The man passed through the departure gate and security checkpoint at Munich Airport on the 4th without a boarding pass and boarded a flight to Hamburg along with other passengers. It is known that he successfully passed through by closely following behind other passengers while the automatic boarding gate scanner at the departure entrance was busy. However, since the Hamburg flight was fully booked, it was discovered onboard that the man did not have a boarding pass. He was handed over to the police but was released shortly afterward.
The man also stowed away on a flight the next day, the 5th, using the same method. He succeeded in boarding a flight from Munich to Stockholm. This time, since the plane was not fully occupied, he arrived in Stockholm without any obstruction, but was caught again shortly after arrival following a tip-off from suspicious airport staff. Police explained that they are investigating how the man was able to pass through the boarding gate scanner twice.
This is not the first case of stowing away on a plane. In March, a man in his 20s in Texas, USA, was caught hiding in a restroom trying to ride a plane for free. His crime was also uncovered because the flight was fully booked. The man was eventually imprisoned in Salt Lake City County Jail on charges of aircraft stowaway.
Additionally, in February, a woman in Nashville, USA, boarded a plane to Los Angeles without a ticket, and in November last year, a man passed through security at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark and flew to Los Angeles International Airport in the USA.
