"Posing as 'Delivery Arrived' Was So Bad... Prevention Message Written on the Box"

Include Damage Prevention Messages on Delivery Boxes

On the 15th, the Financial Supervisory Service, Korea Post, the National Merchants Federation, Hanjin, and other public and private sectors announced their collaboration to prevent financial crimes affecting the public, such as voice phishing, by utilizing delivery boxes and stickers.

There have been frequent cases of smishing impersonating delivery companies closely related to daily life, and attempts to disguise crimes as Chuseok gift deliveries are expected to continue in the second half of the year. Smishing is a method where a large number of mobile messages containing malicious application (app) addresses are sent, inducing users to install the app or make calls, thereby stealing financial information.

Accordingly, Korea Post, the National Merchants Federation, and Hanjin will support the production and distribution of delivery boxes and stickers, while the Financial Supervisory Service will provide content necessary for promotion.

Starting from the 19th, Korea Post plans to distribute 100,000 parcel boxes containing prevention messages at post offices (686 locations) in Seoul and the metropolitan area. From the same day, the National Merchants Federation and Hanjin will attach stickers containing public crime prevention messages (10,000 each for voice phishing, illegal private loans, and insurance fraud, totaling 30,000) on delivery boxes shipped from 66 traditional markets nationwide.

If you receive a suspicious smishing message, never click on the internet address included in the message and be sure to delete the message. If you have already installed a malicious app, scan and delete it using a mobile antivirus app (updated to the latest version), or back up your data and reset your phone, or seek help from acquaintances or a mobile service center. For Android phones, the function to block installation of apps from unknown sources can be activated in the settings app to prevent such installations in advance. This function is set by default on iPhones.

Related organizations will continue to strengthen cooperation to eradicate financial crimes affecting the public, such as voice phishing, and will persistently carry out active promotions to prevent damage.
