A Korean man died after jumping into a river following the act of throwing cash into the water in Thailand.
On the 12th (local time), local media such as the Bangkok Post and The Tiger reported that "On the 11th, a 44-year-old Korean man, Mr. A, jumped into the Ping River located in Chiang Mai and died." A witness stated that Mr. A arrived by tuk-tuk (a common 2-3 passenger three-wheeled vehicle in Southeast Asia), walked to the riverbank, took off all his clothes, broke a laptop he took out from his bag, and threw cash into the river. It is known that he jumped into the river holding the broken laptop in his hand. At the scene, Mr. A's clothes, shoes, and passport were found.
While swimming in the water, Mr. A was eventually swept away by the current. Police arrived and conducted a search for about 12 hours but could not find him. He was found dead around 1 km from the point where he jumped at about 2 p.m.
