Targeting 131 Sites Including Manufacturers, Retailers, and Restaurants
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam will conduct hygiene inspections on 131 businesses, including manufacturers and sellers of popular holiday foods and restaurants, until the 23rd in preparation for the upcoming Chuseok holiday.
This hygiene inspection aims to strengthen safety management of high-demand foods such as health functional foods, which are frequently purchased by citizens as Chuseok gifts, as well as to check the hygiene of establishments selling wheat noodles and naengmyeon, which are especially popular in the summer.
Sacheon City is conducting hygiene inspections of seasonal food products in preparation for the Chuseok holiday.
The main inspection items include: ▲ use, sale, or storage of products past their expiration (distribution) date ▲ compliance with hygienic food handling standards ▲ whether employees have undergone health checkups ▲ adequacy of self-quality inspections, among others.
In particular, the city will focus on restaurants handling naengmyeon and eggs, as well as Korean buffet restaurants that serve food in large quantities, especially those that have not been inspected recently or have a history of administrative penalties. This is being carried out in response to the recent prevalence of Salmonella food poisoning, which is often caused by foods containing eggs.
During the inspection, the city will provide on-site corrective guidance for minor violations, while serious or habitual and intentional violations will be subject to administrative actions and other measures.
A city official stated, "We will strengthen hygiene management for popular processed foods used for ancestral rites and gifts that are widely consumed by citizens to ensure food safety."
