On the 13th (local time), Google announced the launch of its AI assistant, 'Gemini Live.' Gemini supports various tasks by integrating with Google apps and tools. Unlike existing voice AI services, users only need to request Gemini without switching between apps or services.
For example, when preparing for a dinner party, you can ask Gemini to find a lasagna recipe received from a friend in Gmail and add the necessary ingredients to the Google Keep shopping list. Using the soon-to-be-released calendar extension feature, you can take a photo of a supermarket flyer and ask Gemini to inform you of the discount schedule for each item.
It supports hands-free functionality, so you don’t need to use your hands. You can launch the Gemini app like a call function and have conversations even when the phone is locked.
Google explained that Gemini is integrated into the Android user environment, understands context, and provides help exactly when users need it. By pressing and holding the power button or saying "Hey Google," Gemini appears to assist and can answer questions about images or videos being watched.
Gemini Live is available only to 'Gemini Advanced' subscribers. Users must download the Gemini app on any Android smartphone, including Samsung Electronics' Galaxy smartphones, and subscribe to Gemini Advanced. The subscription fee is $19.99 per month (approximately 27,400 KRW). Currently, it operates only in English, but language support will be added within a few weeks.
