The National Samsung Electronics Labor Union (Jeonsamno), which has returned to work, will go on strike again during the "sandwich holiday" period including Liberation Day this week.
Jeonsamno, the largest union at Samsung Electronics, informed its members on the 13th that they will "begin a four-day strike from August 15 to 18," providing strike guidelines by date and work type.
Members of the Samsung Electronics labor union held a cultural event last May in the afternoon in front of the Samsung Electronics headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, urging negotiations with the labor union.
Specifically, on Liberation Day, the 15th, they will refuse holiday work, and thereafter, depending on the work type such as modified shifts, 4-team 3-shift system, and flexible working hours, they will either strike or refuse holiday work.
A Jeonsamno official explained during a YouTube live broadcast that afternoon, "During this period, office staff cannot support the production lines (which are missing shift workers)," adding, "Although it is a short period, it could cause damage to management."
Previously, Jeonsamno went on a general strike on the 8th of last month and held intensive negotiations with management over wage increases and performance bonus system improvements for three days starting from the 29th of last month, but no agreement was reached.
Afterward, Jeonsamno returned to work 25 days after starting the general strike, while announcing plans for guerrilla-style strikes.
