Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilhyung Lee Emphasizes On-Site Prevention of Heat-Related Illnesses... "Strict Adherence to Water, Shade, and Rest"
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilhyung Lee) disaster response volunteer group ‘Baro Volunteer Group’ provided refreshing drinks to about 250 workers at the construction site of the ‘Seegene Medical Foundation Seoul Headquarters Building’ located in Jangan-dong on the 13th to prevent heat-related illnesses among construction workers during the summer.
This event was planned by the Baro Volunteer Group to support construction site workers enduring the ongoing heatwave and to create a safe working environment.
On the day, Ilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, also attended to inspect the construction site, emphasizing adherence to the heat illness prevention guidelines ‘Water · Shade · Rest’ and encouraging the on-site workers.
In his encouragement speech, Mayor Ilhyung Lee said, “I express my gratitude to the Baro Volunteer Group volunteers who have taken the lead in ensuring a safe working environment for construction workers enduring the heatwave,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with volunteer organizations to secure the safety of residents from climate disasters such as heavy rain and heatwaves.”
The mayor received reports on the construction status and heatwave safety management from the site manager and urged the construction company to do their best to ensure the safety of the workers.
Established in July 2022, the Dongdaemun-gu Baro Volunteer Group is a volunteer organization formed to respond promptly and professionally to disaster situations such as wind and flood damage. Following their dispatch to assist firefighting personnel during the early stages of the Environment Resource Center fire in May, they have recently been actively engaged in volunteer activities for disaster prevention and response in Dongdaemun-gu, including inspecting rainwater drains in preparation for heavy rains during the monsoon season.
