New Scam Method Selling at Inflated Prices by Deceiving Market Value
Danggeun Market "Must Actively Report This Type"
A new type of scam using Smart Store URLs has been detected on the secondhand trading platform 'Danggeun Market,' prompting a need for caution. Sellers claim to be offering items at low prices due to reasons such as breaking up with a girlfriend, but these are confirmed to be malicious tactics by suspected professional sellers rather than legitimate secondhand transactions.
According to Danggeun on the 13th, numerous cases have recently been found where products are registered at absurdly high prices on platforms like Smart Store, and these links are then attached to sales posts on Danggeun.
For example, one posted listing states, "Breaking up with my girlfriend, so I’m selling a wireless vacuum cleaner I received as a gift at a cheap price." The seller writes in the post, "It has never been used, and I haven’t even opened it. It seems to cost about 900,000 won elsewhere," attaching a URL link showing the price information of the same product registered on another site.
Buyers who click on the URL link are likely to think, "It’s cheaper on Danggeun." However, this link is a fake product deliberately posted at an outrageous price by a professional seller. This is a tactic to deceive buyers about the online secondhand product market price and sell items at a higher price.
This type of scam has been reported in various regions such as Seoul and Cheonan over the past four months and continues to be reported. Danggeun restricts transactions of items from professional sellers aiming for profit. Users are also responding by reporting to Danggeun or sharing information on the Neighborhood Life board.
Danggeun explains that there is a 'pattern' to this scam method. The products involved are mainly electronic devices such as fans and vacuum cleaners. Posts that cite reasons closely related to real life, such as "I broke up with my partner" or "I suddenly have to emigrate," are also likely not legitimate transactions. They advised caution regarding items like black goat, red ginseng, and imported kitchen knives.
Danggeun emphasized, "As the patterns diversify, user caution is required," and urged, "Users should actively report posts of this type when found." They added, "If identified as a professional seller, sanctions will be imposed according to operational policies," and warned, "Posts with accumulated reports or those using macros may face permanent suspension of service and other measures."
