President Yoon Suk-yeol requested the National Assembly on the 13th to send the confirmation hearing report for Yoo Sang-im, the nominee for Minister of Science and ICT. This is interpreted as moving forward with the appointment process despite the opposition party's demand for voluntary withdrawal.

The presidential office stated that President Yoon requested the National Assembly to send the confirmation hearing report for nominee Yoo on the same day. The deadline for submitting the hearing report for Yoo was set for the 15th.

According to the National Assembly Confirmation Hearing Act, the National Assembly must complete the hearing process within 20 days from the date the president submits the nomination request, and if the report is not adopted, the president can request resubmission within 10 days.

If the National Assembly does not comply with the resubmission request, the president can proceed with the appointment without the adoption of the hearing report starting from the following day.

Accordingly, if the National Assembly does not send the hearing report, President Yoon is expected to appoint nominee Yoo as Minister of Science and ICT as early as the 16th.

Opposition members of the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee claim that nominee Yoo attempted to conceal issues related to marijuana allegations and illegal address transfers concerning his children during the explanation process, and are demanding his voluntary resignation.
