A Journey Through Nature with Meteorite Craters

The newly renovated Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater Circular Trail connects a total of eight peaks?Daamsan, Small Daamsan, Danbongsan, Holloljae, Mitasan, Cheonwangsan, Taebaeksan, and Muwolbong?over a distance of approximately 33 kilometers. Given the long total length of 33 kilometers, the circular trail is divided into seven sections: ▲Daamsan to Park Goljae (3.9km) ▲Park Goljae to Amak Goljae (4.7km) ▲Amak Goljae to Jeokjunggyo (2.5km) ▲Jeokjunggyo to Songrimje (2.6km) ▲Songrimje to Mitasan (5.8km) ▲Mitasan to Keungogaejae (5km) ▲Keungogaejae to Daamsan (4.3km). Each section has been upgraded with information boards, rest areas, and observation decks for the convenience of visitors.

In particular, photo zones featuring Byeolkung, Hapcheon County’s official character, have been set up at the Daamsan parking lot observatory and the Mitasan observatory, making them attractive photo spots where visitors can capture the energy of the universe.

Since the official announcement of the Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater in 2020, Hapcheon County has made continuous efforts to develop it as a tourism resource. With the renovation of the circular trail, the county has taken its first step toward becoming Korea’s only unique tourist destination of its kind.

Meanwhile, the county plans to operate a promotional booth at the International Geological Science Congress to be held at BEXCO in Busan this August, aiming to raise global awareness of the “Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater.” In addition, construction of the Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater Base Center will begin within the year, with the goal of widely promoting the area as an attractive tourism resource both domestically and internationally and developing it into a national project.

Kim Yooncheol, the county governor, stated, “I hope that, through this circular trail, many tourists will visit and help promote the Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater, so that it can become a unique tourism resource representing not only Hapcheon but also Korea as a whole.”
