Next-Generation Transmission Technology 'Full-Duplex' Development
Strengthening Global Standardization Leadership
"Innovation for Differentiated 6G Services"
KT announced on the 13th that it will collaborate with LG Electronics to promote research and development and technology standardization in the 6G mobile communication field.
The two companies have agreed to cooperate to secure leadership in 6G mobile communication technology and strengthen global standardization leadership by focusing on △development of 'Full Duplex' communication, a next-generation transmission technology △global standardization cooperation △discovery of differentiated 6G application services.
Full Duplex communication technology differs from existing methods by simultaneously transmitting uplink and downlink data within a single frequency band. It can increase frequency efficiency by up to twice, making it a leading next-generation transmission technology.
The two companies plan to develop broadband Full Duplex communication technology operating in candidate 6G frequency bands, design and manufacture Full Duplex communication transceiver devices, and complete actual performance verification. They will also jointly strengthen global leadership in overall 6G technology research and development and standardization.
Currently, new 6G service discovery and the establishment of performance indicators are underway globally through standardization organizations such as ITU (International Telecommunication Union) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). In particular, the technical standardization organization 3GPP has decided to complete the standard specifications necessary for 6G base station and terminal development by 2029.
Lee Jong-sik, Head of KT Network Research Institute (Executive Director), said, "Through this 6G research and development collaboration with LG Electronics, KT expects to lead the development of 6G mobile communication technology and strengthen global standardization leadership," adding, "We will do our best to secure innovative network technologies and capabilities to provide differentiated services."
Jae Young-ho, Head of LG Electronics C&M Standard Research Institute (Executive Director), stated, "LG Electronics has been leading advanced research and development to discover core 6G technologies since 2019," and added, "Through cooperation with KT, we expect to significantly contribute not only to leading 6G standardization but also to discovering core services."
