Accidentally Damaged License Plate During Early Morning Commute
Left a Sincere Apology Note Saying "I'm Sorry"
Warm Response: "No Need for Compensation"
A heartwarming story has emerged where a car owner refused compensation after seeing a note admitting accidental damage to their vehicle's license plate, showing kindness instead.
On the 13th, an online community post shared a story from the early morning of the 8th, when the poster, Mr. A, found his car's license plate damaged. He said, "I went to throw away food waste in the morning and found a note attached to my car. It said that someone passing by my car on their way to work early in the morning accidentally caused the damage and left their number," along with a photo.
The note read, "I am sorry to bring bad news on what should be a peaceful start to your day. As I passed by your car, my pants caught on it and broke the plastic near the license plate. Since it was late and I had no contact information, I am leaving this note out of regret. Please contact me, and I will sincerely reflect on this and provide appropriate compensation. I apologize."
Mr. A explained, "The damage to the license plate does not affect driving at all, and my fianc?e said if it’s not a big problem, I shouldn’t accept money. She said the person must have felt unsettled and distracted on their way to work early in the morning. After discussing, I replied by text that I did not want compensation."
When Mr. A texted, "I just checked now. The broken plastic is fine. Please don’t worry about it. You don’t have to compensate me. Have a great day," the person who left the note replied, "I am overwhelmed by your generous forgiveness of my mistake. Thank you so much. I will learn from this big mistake and become a better person. I am sorry and grateful."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments like, "The world is still warm thanks to people like this," "The good deed you did today will come back to you tenfold," and "It’s not easy to make such a decision these days." One netizen shared, "Someone once lightly scratched my car’s bumper, but since it wasn’t serious, I let it go. Later, I accidentally caused a door ding and left a message, but that person told me I didn’t have to compensate them and let it go," recalling a moment of mutual kindness.
