Dobong-gu Achieves First Ever Award in National Local Government Job Competition... Praised for Employment Crisis Response and Job Activation Measures... Positive Evaluation for Policies Including Overseas Trade Delegation Dispatch
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it won the "Excellence Award" in the public announcement category at the "2024 National Local Government Job Awards" held on the 8th. This is the district's first award since the Job Awards began in 2012.
As a result of this award, the district will receive a commendation from the Minister of Employment and Labor along with financial incentives.
The "National Local Government Job Awards," hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, is a comprehensive evaluation of regional job policies conducted annually for metropolitan and local basic governments nationwide. It is divided into the public announcement category, which evaluates local governments based on job target disclosures and performance, and the excellent project category, which assesses the creativity and effectiveness of regional employment policies.
In the public announcement category, the evaluation is based on indicators such as quantitative and qualitative assessments, reviewing the achievements of job target measures, the proactive efforts of local governments, and qualitative aspects of work performance.
The district received high scores in the quantitative evaluation, which assesses employment rates and the number of employed persons. Last year, it created 11,803 jobs, exceeding the target of 10,248 by 15%. The employment rate also reached a record high of 69.3%. The number of employed persons increased for the third consecutive year, and the number of employment insurance subscribers grew for five consecutive years.
Notably, the youth employment rate, which had been declining, rose by 7.1 percentage points compared to the second half of 2022, ranking first among Seoul’s districts in youth employment growth. This was the result of establishing the Youth Future Division, a dedicated youth policy department, and implementing 37 projects supporting youth settlement and career development, including overseas internships for young people.
A district official explained, "The district’s job creation achievements, confirmed by the numbers, were possible because of our efforts to directly confront the regional employment crisis caused by weakening competitiveness of key local industries, continuous outflow of young population, and worsening youth employment rates."
In the qualitative evaluation, the district’s project planning, execution, and resulting achievements received high marks. The evaluation team highly praised the concreteness and effectiveness of Dobong-gu’s comprehensive job plan and its cooperative system with the local community.
They also commended the district’s policies addressing the weakening regional industries and employment stability due to industrial structural changes, high inflation, and high interest rates. The district successfully implemented various new measures such as dispatching overseas trade delegations, operating small business managers and smart innovation support teams, providing Dobong-type Hope Incentives, and running demand-tailored Dobong Employment Academies.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "I am pleased that the district’s multifaceted efforts to create local jobs have led to good results. We will continue to implement various policies that create good jobs for local residents and enhance the competitiveness of regional industries."
