Trump Plans $150 Billion Lawsuit Against U.S. Department of Justice and Others

Former U.S. President Donald Trump plans to file a lawsuit worth $115 million (approximately 157.7 billion KRW) against the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which investigated and indicted him, Fox News and NBC News reported on the 12th (local time).

According to a copy of the legal notice obtained by NBC, former President Trump and his legal representative, attorney Daniel Epstein, claim that the leadership of the Department of Justice and Special Counsel Jack Smith engaged in malicious political prosecutions aimed at influencing the election results to prevent Trump's reelection. As a result, former President Trump had to spend tens of millions of dollars (hundreds of billions of KRW) on legal defense costs.

This refers to the claim that the FBI's 2022 search and seizure of former President Trump's residence in Florida related to the investigation of the leak and illegal possession of classified documents, as well as the special counsel's indictment in the case, were unjust.

The legal notice is a document used to inform the opposing party of the intention to file a lawsuit. It is generally considered the first step in a lawsuit in the United States.

Former President Trump has been criminally indicted four times by federal and state prosecutors. He was indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by the U.S. Attorney General, on charges of leaking and illegally possessing classified documents, and attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
