At 5:02 a.m. on the 12th, a fire broke out at a pig farm in Geryu-myeon, Goseong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province.
According to the South Gyeongsang Fire Department, the fire was completely extinguished by the fire authorities who responded to the scene at around 6:22 a.m.
There were no casualties, but the entire pig farm area of 347.47 square meters was burned down, resulting in the deaths of 40 sows and 400 piglets. The property damage was estimated by the fire department at approximately 97 million won.
At the time of the fire, there were only heat lamps, fans, lights, and ventilators inside the facility, and no other items. It was reported that the barn roof collapsed due to the fire, making on-site inspection difficult.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire based on statements from farm personnel, who said they heard pigs squealing around 5 a.m. and, upon checking, discovered flames in the middle of the barn.
