How Should Modern and Contemporary Architectural Heritage Be Utilized... Academic Conference on the 13th

Domestic and International Experts Gather to Discuss Preservation and Utilization Plans

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 12th that it will hold an academic conference on "Sustainable Preservation and Utilization Technologies of Modern and Contemporary Architectural Cultural Heritage" on the 13th at the Seoul Museum of History, together with Docomomo Korea (Korean Modern Architecture Preservation Society).

Experts from Korea, Japan, and other countries will gather to discuss preservation and utilization methods for modern and contemporary architectural cultural heritage. The keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Emeritus Yoon In-seok of Sungkyunkwan University. He will talk about "Expansion and Diversity of Modern and Contemporary Architectural Cultural Heritage," and present on preservation technologies and construction methods, as well as repair cases of reinforced concrete cultural heritage. Preservation and utilization cases of the Samil Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, which was the tallest building in Korea when completed in 1970, and the former Busan Mayor’s residence, known as the "Provincial Blue House," will also be examined. After the thematic presentations, a comprehensive discussion will be held, chaired by Professor Kim Jong-heon of Paichai University.


Prior to the academic conference, the Cultural Heritage Administration will award thirty-two winning entries from the "Coexistence, A New Breath of Modern and Contemporary Architectural Cultural Heritage" idea contest held from April to June. The grand prize, the Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner’s Award, will be given to Choi Min-hee, a student at Dong-A University, for a proposal related to Daecheon-dong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon. The winning works will be exhibited at the Seoul Urban Architecture Center until the 22nd.
