Continued Increase in Employment Insurance Subscribers... Construction Industry Declines for 12 Consecutive Months

Most Service Industries Show Growth Trends

The number of employment insurance subscribers is showing an increasing trend mainly in manufacturing and service industries. However, in the construction industry, the number of subscribers has been decreasing for 12 consecutive months, with the decline rate widening.

According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 12th, as of the end of last month, the number of regular employment insurance subscribers recorded 15,419,000. This is an increase of 1.5% (222,000 people) compared to the same month last year. The number of regular subscribers has continued to grow this year.


By industry, the number of subscribers in manufacturing and service sectors increased. The number of manufacturing subscribers was 3,851,000, increasing by 1.0% (37,000 people), mainly in other transportation equipment, food products, automobiles, and metal processing fields. However, excluding the increase from foreign workers under the Employment Permit System who are automatically enrolled, the number decreased by 6,000.


The number of service industry subscribers recorded 10,652,000, up 1.8% (193,000 people) compared to the same month last year. Most sectors, including health and welfare, business services, and professional sciences, continued to see an increase in subscribers. However, the decline in subscribers in wholesale and retail trade widened, and the information and communication sector also continued to decrease.


The number of construction industry subscribers was 769,000, down 1.5% (12,000 people) compared to the same month last year. This marks a 12-month consecutive decline centered on general construction. The rate of decrease has also widened from 0.4% in March to 0.9% in April, 1.0% in May, and 1.3% in June.


The number of new job-seeker benefit applicants last month was 112,000. This increased by 7.7% (8,000 people) compared to the same month last year, mainly in construction, business services, and wholesale and retail trade. The number of job-seeker benefit recipients was 653,000, up 3% (19,000 people) compared to the same month last year, and the payment amount was 1.0767 trillion won, an increase of 12.4% (118.6 billion won).


The number of new job postings using Worknet last month was 198,000, down 14.5% (34,000 people) compared to the same month last year. New job seekers numbered 389,000, an increase of 0.5% (2,000 people). The Worknet job-to-applicant ratio (number of jobs per job seeker) was 0.51, down compared to the same month last year.
