Following Hyundai Motor Company, Kia will also disclose its battery manufacturers. In line with the proactive disclosure policy of domestic carmakers, imported car companies have also begun reviewing whether to post this information on their websites.
According to the industry on the 12th, Kia will reveal the battery manufacturer information of its electric vehicles on its website on the same day. The target models include the 10 electric vehicles currently on sale (including derivative models) as well as discontinued models.
Hyundai Motor Company disclosed the battery manufacturers of 13 electric vehicle models, including Genesis, on its website on the 9th. Hyundai stated that following the recent fire incident involving a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle, inquiries about battery manufacturers surged, prompting them to announce the battery manufacturers by model.
As domestic car brands actively disclose battery manufacturers, other automobile brands, including imported cars, are also proactively considering disclosing this information.
KG Mobility, which sells two electric vehicles, the Torres EVX and Korando EV, is discussing the method and timing of disclosure. A KG Mobility official said, "We have already proactively revealed through media reports that we use BYD's LFP batteries," adding, "The relevant departments will meet today to discuss additional methods and timing for information disclosure such as posting on the website."
The imported car industry has already disclosed battery manufacturers through dealer networks and media reports, but the decision to officially post this information on their websites will be made through discussions with their headquarters.
BMW has begun internal discussions to announce battery manufacturers on its website as soon as possible. Polestar has already disclosed related information through press releases and media sites. Whether to disclose this information on the general website will be further discussed with headquarters. Volkswagen Group, including brands such as Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche, is also reviewing this but no decision has been made yet.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will meet with domestic electric vehicle operators on the 13th to discuss measures against fire incidents. The meeting is expected to cover plans to disclose battery manufacturer information, the ongoing battery certification system, enhancement of battery management systems, the effectiveness of overcharge prevention measures currently being discussed at the local government level, and fire spread prevention measures.
