Weekend Theater Attendance Reaches 1,523,631 Visitors
The comedy film "Pilot," starring actor Jo Jung-suk, surpassed 3 million viewers over the weekend, maintaining its position at the top of the box office for two consecutive weeks.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 12th, "Pilot" (directed by Kim Han-gyeol) attracted 723,204 viewers over the three-day weekend (September 9-11), securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 46.7%. Since its release on August 31, the film has accumulated a total of 3,029,279 viewers, ranking it third among Korean films released this year in terms of box office success.
The animated film "Love's Hatchuping," based on a popular TV series, drew 264,041 viewers, placing second. It has recorded a cumulative audience of 406,383, emerging as a surprise hit in theaters this August. The influx of children and parents during summer vacation contributed to its success, and its performance is notably strong compared to other animations released during the same period.
The American animation "Despicable Me 4" attracted 116,119 viewers, ranking third. "Revolver," starring actress Jeon Do-yeon and directed by Oh Seung-wook, which was released on the 7th, struggled by drawing only 106,221 viewers in its first weekend, placing fourth. "Deadpool and Wolverine" (105,342 viewers) ranked fifth, and "Inside Out 2" (62,497 viewers) came in sixth. The total number of moviegoers over the weekend was 1,523,631.
The theater scene is expected to change as new releases continue to open during the extended holiday weekend for Liberation Day on August 15. "Land of Happiness," starring Jo Jung-suk, Lee Sun-kyun, and Yoo Jae-myung, which opens on the 14th, is leading morning pre-sales with a 20.4% reservation rate (72,901 tickets). The foreign film "Alien: Romulus" holds second place with 12.8% (45,974 tickets), and "Victory," starring Lee Hye-ri, formerly of the group Girl's Day, is third with 11.7% (41,845 tickets).
