Accepting Nominations Until September 4 for Awards in Community Service, Public Morality, Education, Culture, and Sports Categories
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it is accepting nominations for candidates for the “29th Geumcheon Citizen Award” until September 4, to honor residents and organizations dedicated to the development of the local community.
The “Geumcheon Citizen Award” is presented annually to discover residents and organizations who have devoted themselves to the development of district administration and the local community, widely publicizing their achievements to boost residents’ pride.
One award is given in each of the five categories: community service, good customs and morals, education, culture, and sports. The community service award is given to those who have served for the development of the community and its residents.
The good customs and morals award is given to those who have contributed to the inheritance and development of good customs and morals, such as filial piety and respect for elders, good deeds, neighborly love, and community activities in the village.
Those who have contributed to the development of education, such as lifelong education and nurturing future generations; those who have contributed to cultural development in areas such as culture, arts, media, and entertainment; and those who have contributed to the promotion of residents’ sports and the development of local sports can be nominated for the education, culture, and sports awards, respectively.
To be eligible for nomination, candidates must be residents or organizations (including companies) who have continuously resided or been located in Geumcheon-gu for more than three years as of the announcement date (August 6), or members of such organizations.
Nominations can be made jointly by 20 or more Geumcheon residents by signature, or by heads of related organizations in each category (department heads, dong chiefs, school principals, etc.) or organization leaders. Application documents such as the nomination form, achievement report, and supporting evidence should be submitted to the relevant district office department by category or to the resident center of the candidate’s dong.
Required documents and detailed schedules can be found in the “Notices and Announcements” section on the Geumcheon-gu Office website.
To ensure a fair award process that residents can agree with, the final recipients will be decided through an investigation of each candidate’s achievements and deliberation by the “Geumcheon Citizen Award Achievement Review Committee.”
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “The ‘Geumcheon Citizen Award’ was established to express our gratitude, even if modestly, to those who are working hard to make Geumcheon a better society,” adding, “We hope you will recommend the hidden heroes of Geumcheon around you.”
The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at the commemorative event of the “Citizen Unity Sports Festival” on October 12. Up to last year, a total of 129 people have been honored at the award ceremonies.
