Amid growing controversy over consumers' right to know about battery manufacturers following the electric vehicle fire accident in Incheon, Hyundai Motor Company (including Genesis) has disclosed the battery manufacturers for all 13 models of its brand electric vehicles.
According to the automotive industry on the 11th, Hyundai announced on its website on the 9th the battery manufacturers installed in a total of 13 electric vehicle models, including 10 Hyundai models and 3 Genesis models.

According to the disclosed list, 12 out of the 13 models sold by Hyundai and Genesis are equipped with domestically produced batteries. The only exception is the second-generation Kona, a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), which uses batteries from China's CATL. Notably, all Genesis electric vehicles are equipped with SK On batteries.
SK On batteries are installed in eight models including the Ioniq 5, Porter, and GV60, while LG Energy Solution batteries are used in four models such as the Casper and first-generation Kona.
The Ioniq 6 uses a mix of LG Energy Solution and SK On batteries. From its initial production in July 2022 until May 2023, SK On batteries were installed, and from June 2023 onward, LG Energy Solution batteries have been used.
Hyundai stated that following the recent electric vehicle fire incidents involving Mercedes-Benz, inquiries regarding battery manufacturers surged, prompting the company to announce the battery manufacturers by model.
Meanwhile, Kia is also expected to disclose electric vehicle battery information on its website soon.
In response to this incident, the government will hold an emergency meeting on electric vehicle fires on the 12th, involving related ministries such as the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the National Fire Agency. On the 13th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to hold a safety inspection meeting for electric vehicles with major domestic automakers to hear their positions on mandatory battery information disclosure and other related matters.
