T'way Air Flight from Singapore Delayed 21 Hours

Return Flight for Aircraft Safety Inspection Immediately After Takeoff

A T'way Air flight from Singapore to Incheon has returned to the airport shortly after takeoff due to a 'safety inspection,' causing delays in flight operations.

T'way Air announced that at 2:15 a.m. local time on the 11th, Flight TW172 (A330-300 model), which took off from Singapore Changi Airport, identified a part requiring a safety inspection and returned to Changi Airport 55 minutes after takeoff.

There were 285 passengers on board this flight. T'way Air reported that the aircraft assigned to Flight TW172 was not able to resume operation immediately, so a replacement aircraft was sent from Korea.

The replacement aircraft is scheduled to take off from Changi Airport around 11 p.m. that day, resulting in a departure delay of approximately 21 hours.

T'way Air stated that arrangements were made for Flight TW172 passengers to stay at a hotel near the local airport.

A T'way Air official said, "In addition to accommodation, compensation will be provided to passengers according to standards," and apologized, saying, "We are sorry for the great inconvenience caused by the unexpected safety inspection issue."
