Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 8th that it will provide support for coal briquette transportation costs for vulnerable groups.
The city established a plan to support coal briquette supply and enacted a support ordinance after a local coal briquette company went out of business last year due to management difficulties, causing problems in the supply of briquettes.
The city surveyed the actual usage of coal briquettes by 291 vulnerable households and finalized the project plan after gathering opinions from transporters and manufacturers.
Accordingly, until June 2027, the city will provide transportation subsidies of up to 100 KRW per briquette, depending on the distance, for coal briquettes supplied to Boryeong from outside the city.
Kim Dongil, Mayor of Boryeong, said, "We will provide support so that vulnerable groups can spend the cold winter warmly," adding, "In the long term, we will also prepare policies to convert heating facilities to reduce the demand for coal briquettes."
