The original work is the tokusatsu film "Gas Human No. 1 (1960)" directed by Ishir? Honda, the director of "Godzilla." It delves into the dark aspects of social structure with entertaining elements, inspiring many creators. Director Yeon said, "Although it is a work from the 1960s, it is still highly complete and the sci-fi elements are sophisticated. I thought it would be an exciting work if reborn in a modern way."

Netflix has entrusted director Shinj? Katayama with the helm and cast Shun Oguri and Y? Aoi in the lead roles. The production is a collaboration between Korean and Japanese staff. Wowpoint, which produced "Parasyte: The Grey," is co-planning and producing the project with the Japanese production company Toho. The screenplay is co-written by writer Ryu Yong-jae and director Yeon.

This is the seventh collaboration between director Yeon and Netflix. He is welcomed for skillfully handling unique themes and genres while well capturing Korean characteristics. Previous works include the 2021 drama "Hellbound" (directed and written), the 2023 film "Jung-E" (directed and written), and this year's dramas "Seonsan" (screenplay) and "Parasyte: The Grey" (directed and written). The film "Apocalypse" (directed) and the drama "Hellbound" Season 2 (directed and written) are still in production or have not yet confirmed release schedules.
