Gangjin-gun Selected as Model Local Government Leading Income Increase through Prompt Execution

Secured 53 Million Won Including Special Grants... Timely Budget Allocation to Overcome Economic Downturn

Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jin-won) was selected as an ‘Excellent’ local government in the 2024 first half local finance rapid execution performance evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Jeollanam-do.

According to the county on the 8th, in this evaluation, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety focused on rapid execution in the first half and consumption investment performance in the second quarter, selecting local governments in the top 25% or higher by group, while Jeollanam-do evaluated rapid execution in the first half and consumption investment performance in the first and second quarters to select excellent cities and counties.

To achieve such excellent results, Gangjin-gun formed a task force led by the deputy governor to promote rapid execution of local finance during the first half, and thoroughly checked the execution status through the monthly ‘Rapid Execution Promotion Status Report Meeting.’

In addition, large-scale investment projects exceeding 1 billion KRW per department and carryover projects were systematically managed at each project stage, including prior administrative procedures and land purchase consultations, to prevent any difficulties from arising.

As a result of these efforts, Gangjin-gun showed an achievement rate of 105.6% against the rapid execution target amount and 123% against the consumption investment target amount. Accordingly, it secured 20 million KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and 33 million KRW in business expenses from Jeollanam-do as financial incentives.

Governor Kang Jin-won stated, “The efforts of each public official came together to ensure that the budget necessary for county administration could be injected in a timely manner, resulting in a good evaluation,” and added, “Through rapid execution, we will play a pioneering role in overcoming the sluggish economic atmosphere caused by high inflation and rising interest rates, and furthermore, we will do our best in the second half of the year to lay a solid foundation for increasing residents’ income and achieving ‘New Gangjin of Communication, Connection, and Creation.’”
