On the 8th, Yonsei University announced that it recently held an Admissions Fairness Management Committee (Fairness Committee) meeting regarding Cho Won and decided to cancel his admission. According to Yonsei University's academic regulations, reasons for canceling university or graduate school admission include false statements or forgery/modification of submitted documents related to the admission process, proxy exams, or cheating. With Yonsei University's cancellation of admission, Cho Won's master's degree was naturally revoked as well.

Previously, Cho Won failed the integrated master's and doctoral program in Political Science and Diplomacy at Yonsei University in the second semester of 2017. About half a year later, in the first semester of 2018, he reapplied for the master's program in the same major and was accepted. He then received his master's degree in 2021.

The issue that caught Cho Won was the documents he submitted at the time of admission. At that time, Cho Won submitted an internship confirmation letter issued by Choi Kang-wook, a former Democratic Party lawmaker who was a lawyer at the law firm Cheongmaek. Choi, who issued the false internship confirmation letter to Cho Won, was indicted on charges of obstruction of business and was sentenced by the Supreme Court in September last year to eight months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence, resulting in the loss of his parliamentary seat.

When the controversy arose, Cho Kuk stated on July 10 last year, "After long consideration, my son decided to return the master's degree from Yonsei University Graduate School, which has become controversial due to the documents submitted at the time of graduate school admission," and added, "This intention was notified to Yonsei University Graduate School by certified mail."

Cho Won's graduate school admission fraud allegations are currently under investigation by the prosecution, and it is known that Cho Won is currently enrolled at Seoul National University Graduate School of International Studies.
