Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju to Host 'Water Rock Festival'

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 8th that it will hold the "1st Gwangsan Water Rock (樂) Festival" on the 31st at 692 Ssangam-dong area.

This new summer festival allows citizens tired of the heat to enjoy cool fun close to the city center while revitalizing the local commercial district. It was planned and prepared jointly by Gwangsan-gu and the Cheomdan District Merchants Association (President Park Hyung-guk). A festival planning team was formed mainly by merchants from the Cheomdan district, reflecting the voices of local residents and merchants in the festival content.

Unlike the traditional way of just watching and enjoying, the festival will feature a variety of events and programs where people of all ages can actively and joyfully participate, including EDM (Electronic Dance Music) parties by famous musicians and DJs, water gun play, street performances (busking), kids’ pool, citizen participation zones, and flea markets. The promotional booth for ‘Ssang-i Ami,’ the mascot symbolizing the Cheomdan commercial district, will also be operated.

A Gwangsan-gu official said, “This is a new urban festival where you can enjoy wearing slippers right in front of your home. It will serve as a venue to promote local economic revitalization and establish a young and dynamic cultural tourism city brand,” adding, “We hope many citizens will show interest and participate so that the festival can be successfully held.”
