Military Manpower Administration: "Work After Work Does Not Constitute a Violation of Regulations"
Min Yoon-gi (31), known as Suga, a member of the group BTS who is serving as a social service agent, was caught driving under the influence. However, the Military Manpower Administration stated that since he was not on duty, no separate measures will be taken.
On the 8th, the Military Manpower Administration announced, "The social service agent in question was driving under the influence personally after working hours and was caught by the police. He is scheduled to be punished according to the Road Traffic Act and other related laws." They added, "In the future, the Military Manpower Administration and the service institutions will strengthen education to ensure social service agents comply with laws during their service period and will thoroughly supervise social service agents through service supervisors."
Suga has been fulfilling his military service obligation as a social service agent in Seoul since September of last year. The Social Service Agent Service Management Regulations Article 8, Paragraph 3 states that "one must always maintain neat attire and appearance and uphold dignity."
However, this regulation applies when the conduct is related to work during duty hours, and since Suga's drunk driving occurred outside of working hours, it does not constitute a violation of this regulation, according to the Military Manpower Administration. Accordingly, aside from legal punishment following the police investigation, there will be no separate disciplinary action or sanctions from the Military Manpower Administration or the service institution, an official said.
On the 6th, around 11:27 p.m., Suga was found alone after falling off an electric scooter on the street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Police nearby went to assist him and detected the smell of alcohol. A breathalyzer test confirmed his blood alcohol concentration was at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).
