Operating 'Play Day at the Library' on the Last Wednesday of Every Month... Cultural Experiences Combined with Play
Monthly Themes Offer Various Activities... Physical Exercises Using Play Equipment, Making Various Props
August: Olympics, September: Chuseok Themes... Anyone Interested Can Apply On-site
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho)'s Gwangjin Children's English Library operates a cultural experience program for children called 'Incredible Library' on the last Wednesday of every month.
'Incredible Library' is a program that provides cultural experiences in the form of play based on a monthly theme. It aims to move away from the static image of a library and approach children as a fun and friendly space. The program consists of two parts: physical activities using playground equipment and hands-on crafting experiences, offering enjoyment to the participants.
Last July, the library was decorated with a beach concept to celebrate summer vacation. A baby shark-shaped slide was installed, and classes for making fans and wooden powered boats were held. On that day, 3,335 people visited, showing great popularity.
On the 28th of this month, to commemorate the Olympics, a sports air bounce will be set up. Additionally, there will be activities to make Taegukgi (Korean flag) keychains and medals. In September, the theme will be Chuseok, October will feature Halloween, and November will focus on space, with various activities planned accordingly.
Any interested children and parents can participate. Applications can be made on-site on the day of the event. For more details, inquiries can be made at the Gwangjin Children's English Library.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "The Gwangjin Children's English Library is more than just a place to read books; it is a playground full of learning and fun for children," adding, "We have prepared a variety of play activities that are beneficial for emotional development and creativity, so we hope many will take advantage of it."
Opened in June this year, the Gwangjin Children's English Library (55 Cheonho-daero 136-gil) is the first specialized library established in the area. Under the vision of 'Creating new library values,' it offers 15,000 English books along with educational and cultural events. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on regular closing days and public holidays.
