Next-Generation Eco-Friendly Natural Refrigerant 'R290' Used
Meets Europe's Highest ErP Energy Rating A+++
LG Electronics is strengthening its push into the European heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) market with a new high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling system that uses eco-friendly refrigerants.
On the 8th, LG Electronics announced that it will unveil its new product, the 'Therma V R290 Monobloc,' at IFA 2024, Europe's largest home appliance exhibition, held in Berlin, Germany, starting from the 6th of next month.
LG Electronics' Therma V is an air-source heat pump (AWHP) product that supplies indoor heating, cooling, and hot water by utilizing thermal energy obtained from outside air. Compared to conventional boilers that burn fossil fuels for heating, it reduces carbon emissions and offers excellent energy efficiency.

The new product’s heating capacity is available in 7 kW and 9 kW models, expanding the lineup following last year’s large-capacity models (16, 14, and 12 kW), thereby broadening customers’ choices for heat pumps. The 7 kW and 9 kW heating capacities are optimized for newly built detached houses in Europe, where insulation is increasingly enhanced, and demand is growing.
This product can supply hot water at up to 75°C even when the outside temperature is as low as -15°C, and its low power consumption makes it economical to operate. It meets the highest A+++ energy rating under Europe’s ErP (Energy-related Products) standards.
The Therma V R290 Monobloc uses the next-generation eco-friendly natural refrigerant 'R290,' which has a global warming potential (GWP) of only 3. The R290 refrigerant is not only highly energy-efficient compared to conventional synthetic refrigerants but also effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
LG Electronics recently established an Air Solution Research Center in Frankfurt, Germany, to conduct research on customized high-efficiency air conditioning solutions optimized for the local European climate. By strengthening its HVAC business capabilities, a key pillar of its B2B operations, LG plans to use Europe as a strategic base in the rapidly growing HVAC market following Korea and the United States.
