What Will Our Kids Do During Summer Vacation?... Nowon-gu Offers Various Special Experiences and Exhibitions Bulamsan Butterfly Garden Grasshopper Experience

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has prepared a variety of exhibitions and experience programs for children to enjoy during the summer vacation.

First, at Bulamsan Butterfly Garden, visitors can see the "Special Exhibition of Stag Beetles of the World." A total of 186 specimens of 59 rare stag beetle species from Korea and around the world, including the Indonesian Bolenhovenni Stylish Stag Beetle, are on display.

The special exhibition is held in the lobby on the first floor of Bulamsan Butterfly Garden until September 1. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and anyone can visit for free without a separate reservation.

During the special exhibition period, experience and educational programs are also offered. The "Making Stag Beetle Specimens" experience with forest service helpers runs twice a day every Wednesday and Friday from August 2 to August 30, for 144 people who have made reservations online.

The "Making Butterfly Frames" using real butterflies and pressed flowers is held every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. until August 31. Up to 50 participants can join on a first-come, first-served basis through on-site registration on the day, and the cost is 5,000 KRW per person.

At the Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center, the event "Chilseok: The Meeting of Science and Folklore," which combines traditional culture and modern science, will be held. Various lectures on topics related to Chilseok, such as the stars Altair and Vega and the Milky Way, are prepared along with diverse hands-on activities.

The experience activities are conducted by theme using spaces on different floors. On the third floor, under the theme "Folklore of Chilseok," visitors can try three types of traditional folk games and draw the Cowherd and Weaver Girl’s Bridge.

On the fourth floor in the planetarium and VR room, visitors can enjoy the story of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl with constellations and XR hologram videos of our galaxy and solar system. Under the theme "Science of Chilseok," participants can also make Milky Way ade, ultraviolet bead bracelets, and Da Vinci bridges representing the Cowherd and Weaver Girl’s Bridge.

The "Chilseok" event will be held on August 10, corresponding to the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. The first session runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the second session from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in science can participate.

For those who want to cultivate cultural and artistic sensitivity, the "Wattagatta Family Theater" held at Nowon Children's Theater is worth noting. "Wattagatta Family Theater" is an interactive performing arts festival where the audience moves throughout the entire theater to watch and participate. Visitors can enjoy circus performances by professional artists and try juggling balls and cups themselves.

The performances run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 10 and 11, with different programs each day. Detailed information can be found on the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.

The district has been operating the "Nowon Cool Fun Water Park" at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology playground since July 19, so children tired from studying can enjoy water play close to home. It runs until August 17, and admission is free for Nowon-gu residents.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "We have prepared various programs so that children on summer vacation can go outside and spend meaningful and enjoyable time. We hope that children and teenagers exhausted from academic stress and the heat can have a time to recharge."
