A story has emerged about a woman who requested the removal of her husband's life support after he collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage, despite the fact that he had been having an affair for 10 years.

On the 6th (local time), according to the Hong Kong media South China Morning Post (SCMP), a man from Liaoning Province in northeastern China was married but was living with his girlfriend, not his wife. One day, this man suddenly collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage at his girlfriend's house and was transported to the hospital.

After the man arrived at the hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit, the hospital tried to obtain surgical consent from the man's wife. The doctor explained to the wife that her husband's condition was critical and that he was in a coma. During this process, they informed her that "even with surgery, the chances of survival are very low, and that life could only be temporarily maintained with medical equipment," as well as "the surgery costs are extremely expensive."

Upon hearing this, the wife said, "My husband has been having an affair for over 10 years and has not provided me with any financial support," and refused to sign the surgical consent form. She then requested the doctors to "remove the husband's life support tubes and give up all efforts to save him."

When this story became known, a debate broke out among local netizens. One netizen criticized the wife's actions, saying, "No matter what, he is still your husband, so you shouldn't give up on treatment." However, others supported the wife, saying, "The surgery is expensive, and the husband caused her so much pain with his affair. I would give up too."

Meanwhile, Chinese law stipulates that if a patient is unable to make decisions, doctors must explain the surgical risks to close family members such as the patient's parents or spouse and obtain written consent. If an agreement cannot be reached with family members, the medical institution takes appropriate medical measures on behalf of the patient.
