An environmental sanitation worker in his 30s lost his life after being hit by a drunk driver who was fleeing the scene during garbage collection work in Cheonan, Chungnam.

On the 7th, Cheonan Dongnam Police Station announced that they had apprehended and were investigating a man in his 20s, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (refusal to take a breathalyzer test).

At around 12:53 a.m. that day, A refused to comply with a police request for a breathalyzer test and fled after officers responded to a report of a car stopped at an intersection at Budeul Yukgeori in Oryong-dong, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan.

A fled for about 1 km before crashing into a garbage collection vehicle that was in operation. Due to this accident, B, a 36-year-old sanitation worker who was working at the rear of the collection vehicle, died.

The police arrested A at the scene as a flagrant offender after he fled again following the accident.

A police official stated, "We plan to investigate charges such as refusal to take a breathalyzer test and causing death while fleeing as soon as A recovers."
