Ulsan City Inspects Heatwave Response at Cooling Centers and Public Worksites

Administrative Vice Mayor Ahn Seungdae Urges Thorough Measures Against Heatwave

Promotion of Heatwave Rest Program and Guidelines for Preventing Heat-related Illnesses

Ulsan City has begun an emergency inspection of its heatwave response measures as heatwave warnings continue across the entire region.

On the afternoon of the 7th at 3 p.m., Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ahn Seungdae will visit the smart bus stop heat shelter across from Beomseo Hanaro Mart and the Seoulju Fire Station construction site to inspect the current heatwave response situation.

On this day, Deputy Mayor Ahn Seungdae will focus on checking the operation of cooling facilities at the heat shelter, the safety of outdoor workers at public worksites, and compliance with the heatwave rest policy.

Before the peak of the hot season, on July 9, Ulsan City sent promotional letters about the 'heatwave rest policy' and the 'three major rules for preventing heat-related illnesses (water, shade, rest)' to 2,565 construction and manufacturing companies, and has been continuously monitoring their implementation.

The heatwave rest policy is a system that grants workers break times between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., when the heat is at its strongest. In addition, when a heatwave advisory is issued, workers should be given a 10-minute break after 50 minutes of work, and when a heatwave warning is issued, a 15-minute break after 45 minutes of work must be guaranteed.

Deputy Mayor Ahn Seungdae said, "Since late July to early August, there have been many cases of heat-related illnesses, and this year the heat is more intense than usual, so I am more concerned than ever about the health of citizens and outdoor workers. Ulsan City will do its best to protect the safety and lives of citizens from the heatwave. I also urge outdoor workers to strictly follow the guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses."
