A Man in His 30s Secretly Trespassing into a Women's Restroom in the Park

A man in his 30s was booked by the police for secretly entering a women's restroom installed in a park and attempting to take women's sanitary products.

On the 6th, the Ulsan Ulju Police Station announced that they have apprehended and are investigating Mr. A (in his 30s) on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (trespassing in a public place for sexual purposes). Earlier, on the 27th of last month at around 9:32 PM, Mr. A was caught trying to take women's sanitary products from a collection box inside a women's restroom at a sports park in Ulsan.

Police who responded to a report stating "There is a man in the women's restroom" caught Mr. A at the scene. At the time, Mr. A denied the charges, claiming, "I entered the women's restroom by mistake because I urgently needed to use the bathroom," but the police found inconsistencies with his statement, noting that before entering the restroom, he parked his car properly by backing in rather than front-in parking, and that the women's restroom was farther from his vehicle than the men's restroom. After persistent questioning, Mr. A honestly admitted, "I entered the women's restroom for personal reasons," leading to his arrest.

Meanwhile, entering a women's restroom can be punished under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and the crime of trespassing in a multi-use facility for sexual purposes. If the conditions for punishment are met, the offender may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won. If camera recording or similar acts are proven and the offender is found guilty, the penalty can be imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine of up to 50 million won.
