Goseong County in Gyeongnam is making every effort to respond to the heatwave by operating water-spraying trucks mainly on major urban roads starting in August, as the sweltering heat continues.
With temperatures exceeding 33°C every day, the county plans to operate three water-spraying trucks three to four times a day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The water-spraying operation helps lower the temperature of road surfaces and surrounding areas, mitigating the urban heat island effect caused by radiant heat. It also prevents road surface deformation to reduce safety accidents and improves air quality by removing fine dust accumulated on the roads.
Additionally, the county has activated a heatwave response task force team led by the head of the Safety Management Division, inspecting cooling shelters and promoting heatwave safety guidelines to prevent any harm to residents.
County Governor Lee Sanggeun stated, "We will do our utmost to prevent any damage caused by the heatwave. We kindly ask residents to refrain from farming or outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day and to pay special attention to their health."
