A passenger car crashed onto the sidewalk within an apartment complex in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, resulting in one death and one injury.

Yongsan Police Station announced on the 5th that they have booked and are investigating a man in his late 50s, Mr. A, on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (causing death). According to the police, Mr. A drove a passenger car within an apartment complex in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, around 11 a.m. that day and crashed onto the sidewalk. He first hit a woman in her 50s who was walking, then struck a woman in her 80s.

As a result of the accident, the woman in her 50s was transported to the hospital conscious but was pronounced dead, and the woman in her 80s sustained minor injuries. Mr. A was confirmed to be unharmed.

Alcohol and drug tests conducted by the police on Mr. A after the accident came back negative. During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that the car did not move as he intended.

The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident.
