Busan Urban Corporation Apologizes and Announces Measures to Address Long Waiting Lines in Heatwave

Busan Urban Corporation (BMC) has announced on the 5th that it will halt the first-come, first-served application process for Happy Housing and expressed deep apologies for the prolonged waiting times endured by citizens in the heatwave. The corporation also unveiled improvement measures to minimize inconvenience to the public.

This incident occurred during the integrated recruitment process for Happy Housing conducted by BMC, which aimed to meet the housing demand of prospective residents.

However, due to unexpectedly long queues, the heatwave, and some applicants receiving multiple application number slips, concerns arose regarding reliability and fairness, prompting management to suspend the first-come, first-served registration process to prevent further inconvenience to citizens.

Busan Urban Corporation intended to enhance customer satisfaction by allowing citizens to choose the region and unit size that best suited them in this recruitment. Additionally, the corporation sought to streamline the application and document submission process through a first-come, first-served system to shorten the supply schedule.

However, due to an unexpectedly large crowd and the heatwave, over 1,000 citizens experienced significant inconvenience from long waiting times, and preparations for such a situation were insufficient.

In response, Busan Urban Corporation has announced the following improvement measures.

The corporation plans to post an official apology on its website and send text messages to citizens, as well as publish a correction notice on the website to minimize inconvenience.

According to the correction notice, the supply schedule for Happy Housing at Complex 2 in front of City Hall and Ami will be extended from the 5th to the 9th, and on-site and registered mail applications will be accepted.

Additionally, the application period for Happy Housing in Dongnae, Yongho, and Ilgwang will be changed to August 12th through August 21st. The application method will shift from first-come, first-served to a lottery system to ensure fairness and trust.

An official from the Welfare Business Department of Busan Urban Corporation stated, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to many citizens by this incident and will do our utmost internally to prevent recurrence."

The official added, "We will take this incident as a lesson, actively listen to citizens' opinions, and continuously strive to provide better services."
