Total Project Cost of 25.8 Billion Won Invested, Accelerating Solutions to Regional Issues Using Artificial Intelligence
Pohang City announced on the 5th that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's public project, "2024 Regional Specialized Hyper-scale AI Cloud Farm Demonstration and Expansion Environment Creation," securing a total project budget of 25.8 billion KRW.
The selected project aims to expand the hyper-scale AI ecosystem by supporting platform development and dissemination for local SMEs and venture companies, utilizing hyper-scale AI infrastructure across all sectors including transportation, manufacturing, and industry in the Gyeongbuk region.
Pohang City, together with Gyeongbuk Province, Gumi City, and Gyeongsan City, plans to implement the project from 2024 to 2026, investing a total of 25.8 billion KRW, including 11.1 billion KRW in national funding.
The city plans to focus on resolving odor issues in the Pohang area by collecting complaints and odor data in real time, analyzing them based on hyper-scale AI to support cause tracking, prediction, and autonomous management.
Additionally, the city intends to foster AI professionals centered around Pohang University of Science and Technology and to build an industry-academia-research ecosystem through startup support and other initiatives.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "We will do our utmost to solve local issues and discover future growth engines for the region by utilizing hyper-scale AI," adding, "We will systematically nurture AI professionals and work together to build a hyper-scale AI ecosystem."
