Continuous Requests Lead to Improvement of Tunnel Entrance Slope and Reinforcement of Safety Facilities
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that it will begin improvement work to prevent winter traffic accidents occurring at the Gusi Tunnel in Hyeonsan-myeon.
To enhance the safety of the Hyeonsan Gusi Tunnel located on National Route 13, this improvement project is being promoted through consultations with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and continuous recommendations to the Gwangju Regional Land Management Office.
The Gusi Tunnel improvement project, managed by the Haenam Branch Office of the Gwangju Regional Land Management Office, will involve adjusting the road surface slope to improve drainage and increase slip resistance, as well as reinforcing safety facilities such as guardrails.
Additionally, the construction is expected to be completed by the end of next month, and the location of the speed enforcement cameras at the tunnel entrance will be adjusted to emphasize safety.
A county official stated, “We expect this improvement project to help ensure safe passage through the Hyeonsan Gusi Tunnel,” adding, “Due to the terrain, snow does not easily melt in the Hyeonsan Gusi Tunnel during winter, so above all, safe driving such as slow driving by drivers is the best way to prevent winter traffic accidents,” urging drivers to drive safely.
It is anticipated that this improvement project will help prevent winter traffic accidents and incidents involving children on their way to school.
